Disturbed sleep may assume a multitude of forms. Slight twitchings of the limbs or different parts of the limbs may be present; violent forms of twitchings may occur. All forms of sounds and noises may be emitted by the person while asleep, even prolonged sentences may be spoken ; mouth breathing, snoring or emitting other unintelligible remarks are all forms of disturbed sleep. All sorts of peculiar sensations of various parts of the skin of the body or of different parts of the body may disturb the sleep; creepy sensations up and down the spine often disturb the person’s sleep, particularly at the commencement of sleep. Disturbing dreams of whatever nature are likewise forms of disturbed sleep. The person’s sleep is often disturbed by feelings of depression, sadness, melancholic feeling, the so-called blues ; these unpleasant sensations are almost invariably caused by the eating of bad food which aggravates the person’s common foundation of disease. Intermittent attacks of mouth breathing are caused by the same means.
It is most difficult to teach people that the principal cause for disturbed sleep is the eating of bad food. Many foods such as spoiled, preserved fish or meats or any other food may not produce any unpleasant effects immediately or soon after they are eaten. In fact, other foods may be eaten between this spoiled food and the time the person retires for sleep. Often-times for that reason we are unable to connect the cause of the disturbed sleep or sleeplessness with the exact food which is to be blamed.
In the absence of any other evident causes for the disturbed sleep, it must be remembered it was food the patient ate during that day or that evening which caused the disturbed sleep. This is a general rule. This is especially true if the person is receiving the antisepticizing treatments. Under these circumstances this makes this rule almost positive. All bad foods cause either constipation or diarrhea, but in most cases by far, more often constipation. Therefore, it is necessary that cathartics, laxatives or purgatives be taken to rid the person of the bad food eaten. If the constipation is not overcome or the cathartics are not taken, then we may expect further disturbance of the person’s sleep and general well-being extending over more than one day.
Nothing will encourage and enable the rapid increase in the number of germs in the person’s nasal sinuses and nose (the person’s common foundation of disease) as much as bad food.
The keynote of this system simplicity again shows itself in the explanation of disturbed sleep, bad dreams, nightmares. In simplicity there is truth. The truth is always simple. All one must remember is that in the absence of plainly evident diseases or illnesses, the explanation for disturbed dreams, sleeplessness, restlessness, worrisomeness, will be found in the food the person so affected, eats. Though this explanation may be unbelievable to many and the explanation appear too simple, nevertheless, if carefully investigated and the simple treatment advised used, the truth will be clearly evident, and proven by the rapidity of the excellent results obtained.
