NASAL sinusitis in all its various forms acute, chronic and otherwise is rapidly, surely and definitely alleviated or cured by common foundationing and the accessory principles of this system. As a general rule, nasal sinusitis is easily placed under control and soon cured by these methods and means. It is a pleasure to observe the simplicity and certainty with which successful results can be obtained in almost all cases. These means are a specific for sinusitis, in all its various forms, both acute and chronic and those afflicted with polyps.
When using the methods and therapy of this system, all the sinuses of each side of the nose may be considered as one. Practically speaking, there are only two large sinuses, one on each side of the head. Regarding the sinuses in this light and taking this attitude toward them is made possible by the highly beneficial influence which the antisepticizing treatments exert on all the nasal sinuses simultaneously. The entire cure of sinusitis is thus greatly simplified. One or two antisepticizing treatments, properly administered, will as a rule, in most cases relieve the patient of most of the complaints due to sinusitis. These complants may vary from headache, pains over the frontal sinuses, or over any of the other sinuses, pains in the head or increased head pains on bending over, points of tenderness over the sinuses, dizziness, vertigo, pains in the back of the head, top of the head, down the neck or shoulder, or throat irritation.
The pains and aches of various parts of the body, which are due to sinusitis, are simultaneously equally well helped and relieved by these same means which so quickly help the sinusitis. The relief of these body complaints may require a number of antisepticizing treatments, but as a rule, they will also be relieved and disappear in rather short time with the sinus pains and aches.
Anatomically there is one set of sinuses for each side of the head. Each set is divided into a number of subdivisions. All sinuses in front of the middle turbinate are known as the anterior group of sinuses. They consist of the frontal, anterior ethmoidal, and maxillary sinuses. Those sinuses behind the middle turbinate body are known as the posterior group of sinuses and they consist of the posterior ethmoids and sphenoid sinuses. Any one or more or all of these sinuses when diseased, are helped simultaneously and equally well by each antisepticizing spray; this is one of the reasons why all the nasal sinuses on each side of the head may be regarded as one.
As a rule, all acute inflammations of any one or all of these sinuses are quickly relieved by the antisepticizing sprays. All painful, tender sinuses are turned into painless, comfortable sinuses by the antisepticizing treatments alone.
All claims made herein to effectively prevent, alleviate or cure so large a percentage of our ills are dependent in the final analysis, on our ability to effectually prevent, control, alleviate or cure all forms and varieties of sinusitis.
This work is based on the latest theories which maintain that most of our diseases are really complications of diseases of the sinuses ; hence, if we can prevent, eliminate or cure sinusitis, we can prevent or cure most of our diseases.
Sinusitis, either acute or chronic, is an infection, congestion or inflammation of the sinuses and can be caused by most any variety of germs or viruses. Acute, subacute or chronic sinusitis are made possible by the person’s common foundation of disease, invariably assisted by the eating of bad food and by the presence and activity of germs and viruses. Without the presence of the mechanical derangement of the interior of the nose (which is known herein as the common foundation of disease), the germs or viruses would be incapable of giving rise to prolonged or serious forms of sinusitis.
The acute attacks of sinusitis are invariably aided by a fresh infection of the interior of the nose and sinuses ; a new supply of germs or viruses which have been coughed, spit or otherwise handed over to the person, reinfects the sinuses and sets up the new attack of sinusitis. This fresh infection is not absolutely necessary in all cases since the interior of the average person’s nose (the person’s common foundation of disease) is always, more or less, plentifully supplied with different varieties of germs that are ready at a moment’s notice the moment the person’s resistance is even temporarily reduced to spring up (multiply) in large numbers and give rise to sinusitis and sicknesses.
By far the vast majority of all cases of sinusitis are recurrences of old attacks of congestion or inflammation of the same sinuses ; it is repetition after repetition of attacks of congestion or inflammation of the sinuses by the causes mentioned.
Individual, isolated attacks of one or even two sinuses only are extremely rare and it is questionable if this ever takes place. As a general rule, all the sinuses are congested or inflamed simultaneously, some to a marked and others again to an almost imperceptible degree.
Therefore, for all practical purposes, the general rule is to consider that all the sinuses are infected in any case suffering from sinusitis and proceed to cure the patient with this idea in mind. With the use of the antisepticizing treatments and other methods of this system, this is not a difficult or complicated affair.
As a rule, surgery on the sinuses is not advised and is made unnecessary by the means and methods of this system.
Thanks to the wonderful curative powers of the antisepticizing treatments, we are enabled to treat all the sinuses on each side of the head as one sinus. All the sinuses are simultaneously treated when the antisepticizing treatments are used.
A simplified, surgical procedure has been developed which enables us likewise to treat surgically all the sinuses as one and without destroying any of the sinuses or other structures of the nose. This surgical procedure is known as the Upper Respiratory Nasal Pas-sage Operation or Gluck Respiratory Passage Operation and is described in detail in the Second Section for Physicians.
In this system the nasal antisepticizing treatment is the mainstay and backbone for the prevention, alleviation or cure of all forms of sinusitis. Most all cases respond rapidly and satisfactorily to the simple, proper use of the antisepticizing treatments. The pains and aches of the head and sinuses are easily and quickly relieved ; dizziness, increased pain on bending over, tenderness of the sinuses (pain on pressure over the sinuses) are all equally quickly relieved; this is true of all complaints and symptoms, including quick relief from excessive nasal discharge and stuffing up of the nose in both acute and chronic sinusitis cases. The patient is enabled to sleep and go about his occupation in the proper, normal way.
By means of the proper use of the antisepticizing treatments and the other methods advised, the number of different operations for the prevention, relief and cure of sinusitis is reduced to a minimum. In fact, they have all been reduced to one type of operation. This is known as the Upper Respiratory Passage Operation. However, in order to do this Upper Respiratory Passage Operation properly in most people, it is necessary also to straighten the nasal septum by means of the submucous resection of the nasal septum operation, which can usually be done at the same time that the upper respiratory passage operation is done.
No destructive operations are employed or are necessary; no operations which demand the amputation or ripping out of important and necessary structures which normally should be present in every person’s nose, are tolerated by these methods. The interior of the patient’s nose is not crippled. The turbinate bodies are not torn out, exenterations or ripping out of the sinuses are not advised or done.
There are three general types of sinusitis; the catarrhal, the purulent and the hyperplastic. These three types are in reality only varying degrees of severity of the same disease and can, therefore, all be considered in the same light and successfully treated by these same methods and means. In actual practice these facts prove themselves to be true and their correctness is proven by the successful results invariably obtained.
Since this system obtains most of its beneficial results in nearly all illnesses and diseases of each and every part of the body by constantly combating sinus infection, the principal causes which have given rise to the sinusitis are most carefully corrected and eliminated. These causes are deficient oxygen intake, nasal sinus infection and the eating of harmful food.
It was of prime importance to devise accurate and satisfactory means for preventing, controlling, alleviating or curing all nasal and sinus disease or pathology. This has been the primary object of this work. Highly satisfactory means have been developed which enable us to accomplish the very results we desire. These satisfactory means are known by the general term of common foundationing the patient turning the patient’s common foundation of disease into a common foundation of good health.
The successful treatment of most ailments of most any part of the body is primarily the successful treatment for sinusitis, therefore, most stress has been laid on developing accurate methods for the cure of sinusitis.
